In the absence of Neymar, Barcelona drew 1-1 with German side Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night in the last round of the group stages of this season"s UEFA Champions League.
The Brazilian, who has been one of the major highlights of Luis Enrique"s side this season, has suffered an injury in the adductor muscle of his left thigh and is a doubt for the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan this month. With the number 11 out of the game against Deportivo La Coruña at the weekend, Barça will assess whether he will be able to compete in the tournament in Japan. UEFA Champions League winners are given direct entry to the last-four of the tournament, so Barcelona awaits the winner of the quarterfinal between Mexican side América and Guangzhou Evergrande from China.
When asked about the situation, Neymar"s father told ESPN: “The injury is Grade 2, but it will keep him out at least for a week. They [Barcelona] are enjoying a great moment and if the club makes it past the first match, Neymar would play the final since Barcelona are the huge favorite to succeed Real Madrid as Club World Cup champion."
