Cruzeiro, facing the imminent departure of Mano Menezes to Chinese side Shandong Luneng, are trying to bring former footballer Clarence Seedorf to lead the team next season.
According to Globo Esporte, the football director of the club, Thiago Scuro, is in Europe to present the proposal to the 39-year-old Dutchman, and negotiations between the parties can be completed this weekend. After ending his career as a player in Botafogo, in 2013, Seedorf took charge of Milan early last year. In 22 games under Seedorf, the Italian team registered 11 wins, two draws and nine defeats.
Superesportes MG contacted Thiago Scuro, but when asked if Seedorf was indeed the reason for his trip to Europe, the director was silent for several seconds, seemingly surprised that the news has leaked. He said: “I’m traveling, but for several reasons. I will not confirm or deny any possibility. What I can say is that I am working hard. We will present our project to various professionals.”
Asked if the first name on the club’s list would be a foreigner, Scuro dodged again. He added: “We are not behind a nationality, but a concept. We want a profile who can continue this new philosophy at Cruzeiro.”
