Ex Chelsea left back Filipe Luis claims that Jose Mourinho’s abrasive management style does not suit all of his players.

Luis joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in 2014, only to be sold straight back to the Spanish club one year later. In an interview with Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, the Brazilian full-back did say that he still considered his season in London to be a triumph.

“He has his way of talking to the press, especially when the team loses. It can often impair certain players. Some benefit from criticism, but others do not,” reported Filipe Luis. “Sometimes he’s right, sometimes not. Sometimes people think that he talks nonsense, sometimes they agree. It is his way of working, but I think it’s normal,” he added.

Luis did reserve praise for his ex-manager’s thorough preparation though, “He studies rivals very closely and tells the team what can happen during the game. So you go to the field knowing what will happen and nothing surprises you,” he said.

Despite leaving after only a year, Filipe told Balague that he considers his time at the club a success due to the silverware he won, “I consider my time at Chelsea a triumph. In a year, I won two titles. I have these medals at home. I did not have many opportunities to play.” Luis is expected to start for Brazil in Buenos Aires and seems to have asserted himself as Dunga’s first choice left-back ahead of Real Madrid’s Marcelo.
