Chelsea will go back in for defensive target Marquinhos in January. The defending Premier League champions failed to land either of their top two targets in the summer with both a move for the PSG defender or Everton’s John Stones failing to materialise.

The player himself has come out and admitted his frustration at being third choice for his club behind compatriots David Luiz and Thiago Silva, and hasn’t ruled out a move away from the Parc des Princes.

Still only 21 years old, he hasn’t yet found a place he can call home. The Brazilian international had a single season in Italy with AS Roma where he made 26 appearances at the age of 19. His performances were quickly picked up by PSG who swooped for the teen in 2013.

His agent has come out and explained his clients desire to be the best defender in the world and that he is not happy at playing second fiddle at the French Champions.

This may be music to Chelsea’s ears who, despite having two substantial bids turned down for the player in the summer, may now feel they have a platform to lure the ex-Corinthians defender to Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho had to plump for Senegalese international Papy Djilobodji and Reading centre back Michael Hector instead. Nonetheless with Chelsea making a slow start to their latest Premier League defence, Mourinho will know a top quality centre half will be high on the wanted list.
