Upon arriving to Porto Alegre in the late afternoon of Thursday following the club’s 0-0 draw with Fluminense in the first-leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals, Grêmio’s Douglas tried to explain an unusual incident.
The midfielder was seen urinating on the Maracanã pitch in Rio de Janeiro during the final team-talk moments before the kick-off on Wednesday night, but he went on to say it was “normal” and that he has done the same on previous occasions as well. He was quoted in Globo Esporte: “What incident? Ah…it was impossible to return to the locker room, had no other place, so it had to be there. Normal. I always do that, but got caught this time. It is normal, there is no way back. The game just starts, the crowd settles, and no one sees. But this time someone took it.”
