Chelsea striker Loic Remy has praised injured team mate Diego Costa, but insists he is ready to step into the Brazilian’s goalscoring shoes.

Costa was withdrawn limping just 12 minutes after his half-time introduction during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Stoke City at the weekend and looks set to be out for as much as two weeks.

“It’s a shame for the team because we all know Diego is a very good player and he’s scored so many goals for us this season,” said Remy.

“When I play I just try to do my best and it’s a great opportunity for me to show I can be important for the squad as well.

“I don’t see it from a personal point of view, we are a team and whoever plays tries to do their best.

“But, I’m happy to give my team what they expect from me, and I’m a striker so I want to score goals.”
