Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli insisted he was happy with the way his side performed against Brazil despite suffering a 1-0 friendly defeat at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

It was a second friendly defeat in quick succession for the Copa América hosts, who went down 2-0 to Iran in Austria, when Sampaoli rested many of his key men. He said: Sampaoli said: “The plan was to play as many different players as possible. We had a plan for Iran and a plan for Brazil, and I would say that the plan for Brazil turned out slightly better. The overall performance here was good, aside from the result and I’m happy with the players.”

Sampaoli refused to be drawn on the incident where centre-back Medel appeared to stand on Neymar’s calf in the first half, with referee Martin Atkinson apparently not spotting the clash. He added: “I can’t analyse the referee, there are other people here who can do that. I’m here to analyse my players.”
