Paris Saint-Germain Manager Laurent Blanc has outlined that he is desperate to keep defender Marquinhos.

The 20 year-old, who is contracted until June 2018, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

With fellow Brazilians David Luiz and Thiago Silva to compete with for a starting berth, Marquinhos may be willing to pursue a switch to England in the summer transfer window.

Despite this however, Blanc insists that the São Paulo-native is the “future of PSG” and is eager for him to extend his deal.

“Marquinhos has a spirit and a special mentality,” he said, as reported by the Express. ”We have done everything to keep him and we will do everything possible to extend his contract.

“It is good that as a player he can operate in different defensive roles, and let’s not forget he is just 20 years old. He and Adrien Rabiot represent the future of PSG.”

Marquinhos was signed by PSG from Roma for a reported fee of €31.4 million in July 2013. The Brazil international – capped four times – has won three major honours with Les Rouge-et-Bleu and scored six goals in 60 appearances.

This term, he’s featured 28 times and been involved in all five of Paris Saint-Germain’s most recent Ligue 1 matches.
