Former Germany midfielder Didi Hamann believes that injury robbed Ronaldo of the title of being known as the greatest player of all time.

Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the finest strikers in the history of football, but had several well-documented injuries throughout his glittering career.

Ex-Liverpool star Hamann came up against “Il Fenomeno” in the 2002 World Cup final, and the Brazilian scored twice as the Selecao claimed their fifth title in Japan.

Speaking to Goal.com, Hamann said: ‘For me, he was the best. Before he had his injuries, he the best player going.

‘When he started playing for PSV, I think he took centre-forward play to a different level and he did things that nobody ever did before.

‘Once he started running at you, usually it was game over.’
