Malaysia Super League side Johor Darul Ta’zim FC could be set to make a move for Santos midfielder Patricio Rodríguez, according to reports.

Respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Santástico have some economic problems and could be forced to sacrifice a player to balance the books.

Rodríguez was signed from Independiente in July 2012 for €1.6 million, but has only made 25 appearances since for Santos and was loaned to Estudiantes de La Plata last season.

This term, the 24 year-old has appeared just times – all as a substitute – and is yet to score.

With his reputation still reasonably strong due to his time in Argentina, Rodríguez could still command a reasonable transfer fee, while money would be saved on his contract, which has almost two years left to run.

Di Marzio claims that Johor Darul Ta’zim FC will make a move when the Malaysian transfer window opens and suggests they are heading queue to secure Rodríguez in the near future.
