Dani Alves believes the media played a part in Brazil’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign but did also admit the players didn’t prepare properly for their semi-final clash.

The host nation were thrashed 7-1 by Germany in the last four of the World Cup, before Netherlands beat them 3-0 in the third/fourth place play-off.

It was a humiliating end to Brazil’s home World Cup and the Barcelona defender believes the press played a part.

Alves spoke to Lance recently, with the Guardian quoting the experienced defender.

“We had good players but we didn’t prepare for the game against Germany,” admitted the Barcelona full back.

“The press did not let us work in peace.

“You look at other teams and they have 15 minutes of open training. And the press accepts that.

“But you don’t see anything like that in Brazil, where they cover the national team 24 hours a day.

“The press in Brazil gives you compliments if you win. You get a slap in the face if you lose. To me, that was the biggest problem for the Seleçao, the over-exposure.”
