Brazil forward Neymar believes that the Seleção’s pair of 1-0 wins over Colombia and Ecuador has gone some way to rebuilding the damage done by the World Cup failure.

Speaking after the Ecuador match last night, the Barcelona player said: “They were two difficult games which we won. We are happy with the results.”

Neymar scored the winner against Colombia with a beautifully taken free-kick eight minutes from time. Then, last night, he provided the assist for Willian to score the game’s only goal against Ecuador.

The Brazil No. 10 then missed a glorious chance from a few yards out to add gloss to the final score.

“The ball arrived a little strong because it had to. It went off course a little bit, I put my foot out to shoot but the ball rose a little bit,” he explained after the final whistle.

The 22-year-old also complained about the state of the pitch in New Jersey, and claimed it hindered Brazil’s style of play. Usually used for American Football matches, played on synthetic grass, the field received a cover of natural grass for last night’s match, which slowed considerably the speed of the ball.

“The pitch left a lot to be desired. From our point of view it was awful to see,” he said.
