Former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta has suggested that Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari could well leave his role on the back of a lack of style shown by his team, more so that the fact they exited the World Cup under a cloud of embarrassment.
A 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Germany was bad enough, but Mendieta reckons a poor approach to games could be Scolari’s downfall: “I don’t know if he’ll go but he’ll be criticised because of the way they have been playing.”
“People expected more in terms of the players they have. It’s been hugely disappointing.”
“They had shown some character in the previous games but not really the flair we associate with Brazil, and without Neymar and Thiago Silva it was too difficult for them.”
Brazil’s final game of the 2014 World Cup comes this Saturday evening in Brasilia, as they take on Holland in the third-place play-off.
