Defender Maicon says he cannot wait for Saturday’s third-place play-off in Brasilia, as it will give Brazil the opportunity to restore some degree of pride following last night’s horror show against Germany.

The AS Roma right back, who will be playing in his last World Cup at the age of 32, told SporTV: “This is one of the worst days of my life, but we have to move on. It’s a monent of sadness. Suffering seven goals, that’s just…”

“In four years we’ll have another World Cup, Saturday there’s another game, we need to get over this because it will be remembered for a long time.”

“Everyone’s sad. Fans, players and families. But Saturday is another day and we’ll have to close this the best way we can.”

“I have no doubt that we will be ready for Saturday.”

It remains to be seen whether Luiz Felipe Scolari will give a chance of redemption for those who were on the pitch last night, or offer the younger members of Brazil’s squad the opportunity to press their claims for future internationals.
