Brazil Head Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has accepted full responsibility for his side’s shocking 7-1 World Cup semi-final defeat to Germany.

The veteran tactician, who won the tournament with the Seleção in 2002, insists Germany were better, but is willing to take the blame for the historic loss.

“Who is responsible for this result? I am, it’s me,” he said, as reported by Football Italia.

“The blame for this catastrophic result can be shared between us all, but the person who decided the line-up, the tactics, it was me. It was my choice.

“We tried to do what we could, we did our best – but we came up against a great German team. We couldn’t react to going behind. There were six or seven minutes that changed the game.

“I can say that after the first goal, Germany took us by surprise, played with quality and took advantage of the situation.

“Not even the Germans can tell you how this happened – but it’s because their skills and you have to respect that.

“My message for the Brazilian people is this. Please forgive us for this performance. We thank the fans, as even if losing by five, six or seven goals, they always supported us.

“I’m sorry that we weren’t able to get to the Final – but we’re going to try to win the third place match. We still have something to play for.”
