FIFA President Sepp Blatter is confident that the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be “a celebration.”

The build up to the tournament has been marred by construction delays, while there is expected to be multiple protests throughout the month.

Blatter expects, however, that the tension will be eased once it all kicks off on Thursday.

“We at FIFA, we are confident,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports. “It will be a celebration.

“I’m an optimist. After the tournament kicks off, I think there will be a better mood.”

The 2014 FIFA World Cup starts with hosts Brazil taking on Croatia at the Arena Corinthians on 12 June.
