Brazil forward Hulk has revealed that a Panama player asked him if he was suffering from racist abuse during yesterdays friendly match.

Seleção ran out 4-0 winners with Hulk helping himself to a goal, however during the game he had to explain to one of his opponents what the Brazil supporters were actually chanting and to clarify to the player that it wasn’t racial abuse.

The 27-year-old told SporTV: “The crowd started yelling ‘Hulk, Hulk, Hulk’ and a player I was playing against said ‘they are screaming, but there are also many blacks here’.

“Then I said ‘no, it’s not racism, not here. They are screaming Hulk, Hulk, Hulk’.

“He apologized and said he misinterpreted and I said ‘no problem, it would never happen here in the squad’ and he said it was ok.”

Thankfully the issue was a misunderstanding and not racism rearing its ugly head again.

Hulk also discussed the worry about sustaining injuries prior to the World Cup, he said: “There are times when we can not put the foot in to be safe, but also can not do that all the time.

“It is a game, and every game we have to want to win.”
