Vasco da Gama’s struggle to adapt to life in the second tier of Brazilian football continue last night with an away draw at Bragatino to leave them in tenth place in the division to leave them seven points behind leaders America Mineiro after the same amount of games.

The Rio de Janeiro side, who have been crowned champions of the top flight on four occasions, took the lead through Santiago Montoya but were pegged back by an equaliser from Robertinho.

The result means that although Vasco have lost as many games as the division’s top team, they have drawn four of their opening fixtures, scoring only nine goals in the process.

Vasco have won one in five and next take on Portuguesa at home on Saturday in their penultimate game before the league recess for the World Cup.
