The former Manchester United and Juventus goalkeeper believes that the conditions are right for the host nation to lift the trophy this summer.

Van der Sar, who played in the Netherlands’ semi-final defeat against Brazil in 1998, also said that Luiz Felipe Scolari has a lot of depth in his squad.

“I think Brazil are clear favourites because of the weather, the humidity, the warmth, the expectation from the people," said Van der Sar in an interview with Laureus Sport.

“And besides, there are so many good football players that they [could] put two or three teams in the World Cup. So I think it will be very hard for an outsider – a European team – to get to the final and try to win it. I think Brazil will win for the sixth time."
