Brazil captain Thiago Silva has been nominated for another gong as the list was published for the 2014 Golden Foot awards, whereby only players over the age of 28 can win for achievements on the pitch in their entire career.

The Golden Foot, which was set up in 2003, honours club and individual feats, and has been won in the past by such footballing luminaries as Roberto Baggio, Pavel Nedved and Francesco Totti.

This year’s winner will come from a mouth-watering shortlist that includes Silva, world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo and World Cup winner Andres Iniesta.

The awards veremony will take place in Monaco on October and Thiago can take some inspiration from the fact that Brazilians Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos have triumphed before.
