David Luiz felt Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final match was decided by fine margins as the Blues crashed out 3-1 on aggregate to Atlético Madrid.

Fernando Torres has given the London side the lead but Atlético replied emphatically and Luiz told Sky Sports after the game that had his header in the 64th minute found the net, there might have been a different outcome.

“They scored when they needed to score,” the Brazilian conceded.

“We controlled the game for the first 40 minutes and then we conceded a goal at the end of the first-half and they were able to counter attack and they dictated the game.

“In the second half, they scored the second goal and then we headed the ball against the post.

“If it is 2-2, it is a different game and we are back in it but then they scored the third goal and that is it.”

Luiz was gracious in defeat, though, and praised Atlético following their win.

He concluded: “They have a a fantastic philosophy and a very good team. We gave it our best but it was not enough; that is football.”

Luiz and co will now focus on the Premier League, where Chelsea still have an outside chance of winning the league. However, only victory against Norwich will maintain their title hopes.
