The construction team behind Corinthians’ new stadium , the Arena de Sao Paulo, have handed it over to the club despite admitting that there are things still to be finished before its total completion.

The 68,000 venue has been at the centre of a lot on controversy in the past few months, never more so than when a crane colloapsed in November and killed two contruction workers.

Project Manager Andres Sanchez, who also played for Corinthians, said: “We are delivering the stadium today but there is some work left to do, not only cleaning and security, but other preparation as well.”

“But this is nothing big and we will conclude verything in the next 15 days. Then the stadium will be ready for the World Cup.”

The Arena de Sao Paulo will host six games at this summer’s tournament, including one of the semi final matches.
