Botafogo face a crucial Copa Libertadores group game this evening in the knowledge that victory would guarantee the Brazilian club a passage into the next stage of South America’s leading club competition.

Goalkeeper Jefferson has been a major reason for the club’s performances in this season’s tournament to date and will no doubt have a big say in the outcome of the game against San Lorenzo of Argentina.

Jefferson’s role at Botafogo has been highlighted by teammate Juan Carlos Ferreyra, who told Lance: “Jefferson is our benchmark, our captain. He’s a great player and a leader of the group, which helps alot.”

Defaet for the side from Rio de Janeiro would spell disaster for them as their opponents would overtake them in the Group 2 table and themselves go through to the next round.
