One of the world’s most famous football stadiums will be graced by one of the world’s most famous athletes this week, as number 1 ranked tennis superstar Rafael Nadal heads for Brazil for the Rio Open.

As part of his preparations for the event, multiple Grand Slam winner Nadal will take in a trip to the Maracana before the tournament kicks off and has spoken to reporters of his joy at visiting the home of football in a city that he has never previously been.

“It’s great to be in Brazil, a country where I have always had good experiences. I hope I shall be able to compete well.”

Good publicity has been lacking throughout the build up to this summer’s World Cup and the sight of Nadal at such an important venue is sure to help the public make a racquet.
