Botafogo ensured that the opening fixture of this year’s Copa Libertadores went in favour of Brazil as they recorded as routine 2-0 victory over Argentine champions San Lorenzo at the Maracana last night.

The Rio de Janeiro club, who finished fourth in the Brazilian Campeonato last term, scored in each half through Juan Carlos Ferreyra and Wallyson to ensure a lead in Group 2 early on.

Wallyson has carried his impressive state form into the Libertadores, having joined the club from Bahia in the close season.

Botafogo’s next fixture in the tournament will be on the 26th of this month away in Chile, against Union Espanola.
