Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilian played a major part in the Reds 5-1 demolishing of title hopefuls Arsenal.

Anfield witnessed a masterful performance from Rodgers team and Coutinho in particular during the lunch time kick off.

Rodgers spoke to reporters after the game and his quotes were published on the official Liverpool website.

Rodgers added: “Young Philippe has always had that appetite for the ball and he’s a wonderful technician.”

The 21-year-old lined up in a midfielder three alongside English duo Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson, both of who are likely to be at the World Cup with England.

Coutinho assisted Liverpool’s fourth goal playing an exquisite through ball to Daniel Sturridge but it was his all round game that impressed Rodgers the most.

According to football statistics site WhoScored.com, Coutinho made five key passes. He also made an impressive six tackles as well as two interceptions to show a different side to his usual game.

Rodgers was delighted with him, saying: “He’s added to his game the ability to press the ball, intercept, block and his hunger to do that side of the game is now key for us.”

With Luiz Felipe Scolari set to announce his Brazil team for the friendly against South Africa on Tuesday, Coutinho might yet be among the surprise additions in his squad.
