Diego Forlán is set to sign for J.League Division 1 side Cerezo Osaka, according to the Daily Sports.

It claims talks with the Internacional forward are close to a conclusion and that a deal could be announced in the coming days.

Forlán would be big coup for Cerezo Osaka, given the likes of Botafogo and West Ham United were reportedly interested in signing the 34 year-old.

Forlán has been angling for a move away from Internacional since the conclusion of the 2013 Brasileirão. Inter struggled for much of the campaign, with the Uruguayan only able to contribute five goals, as they just avoided the drop.

Should Forlán move to Japan, it is unclear whether it would affect his position in Uruguay Head Coach Óscar Tabárez’s plans for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
