Liverpool are hoping to beat Manchester United and Everton to the signing of Porto midfielder Fernando, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper claims the 26 year-old is still up for grabs despite his agent, Antonio Araujo, suggesting he had agreed renewed terms with Porto.

Fernando’s current deal expires in the summer and the likes of Everton, Manchester United and Milan have been strongly linked with trying to sign him this month.

The Daily Express now claims, however, that Liverpool are the front runners for the Alto Paraíso de Goiás-native’s signature and are confident a deal can be secured in the current transfer window.

Fernando joined Porto from Vila Nova in June 2007. After been initially loaned to Estrela da Amadora, he has been an integral part of the Dragões recent success. This season, he’s made 20 appearances.
