Luiz Felipe Scolari has discussed his sadness at learning of the death of Portugal legend Eusébio and talked about his “great relationship” with the legend of the game.

Felipão was manager of the Portugal national team between 2003 and 2008 and was also known to be close friends with Eusébio.

The 71-year-old, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning, has praised Scolari numerous times before and the Brazil manager paid tribute to his friend by telling Lance his thoughts on the great man.

“I’m sorry. I learned a little while ago about the death of Eusébio. I’ve always had a great relationship with him.

“When I was with the Portuguese national team he always had a word of encouragement and was always teaching.

“He had great respect for all of the selections, athletes, coaching staff and the management. It is a great loss for all of us.”

Tributes have poured in since the world learned of Eusébio’s death and Scolari’s comments joins various other heart-warming speeches to mark the Portuguese legend passing away.
