Cruzeiro’s star midfielder Everton Ribeiro appears to have ruled out a move away from Brazil in January, although he may transfer after the Copa Libertadores.

Ribeiro helped Cruzeiro win the 2013 Brasileirão and in the process qualify for next season’s Copa Libertadores.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to various European giants including English club Manchester United and Spain’s Real Madrid but it seems he will be staying in Brazil for the immediate future.

He told Globe Esporte that he is focused on having another good season with Belo Horizonte club.

“There is a lot of speculation but for now I am just enjoying my vacations. I’ll present myself at Cruzeiro on 6 January to have a good pre-season and another great year at Cruzeiro.

“I don’t know what will happen after Libertadores. Football is very dynamic, I’ll do like I did this year, step by step.”

The former Corinthians player has flourished since joining Cruzeiro and has stated that he is very happy with his current club.

“Everything is working out little by little, Cruzeiro have a great squad, everyone treats me well and I am very happy here.”

Ribeiro was voted the best player in the Brasileirão last season but fans will face an anxious wait to see if he is there for the start of the next campaign.
