VfL Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking admits a decision on Diego’s contract has yet to be made.

The Brazilian’s deal runs out in the summer and he would be free to talk with prospective employers from January.

"We have to see if it makes sense to extend the contract of Ivica Olić, and the same with Diego," Hecking told Die Welt, as reported by Football Espana.

The 49 year-old insists both technical and economical considerations will be made.

"We must evaluate if he [Diego] suits the style of game that we want, or if we are basing our game to be too dependent on him alone," he continued.

"There are the economic conditions in place to sign these players again, but we want to escape the belief that Wolfsburg’s players are here just for money."

Diego joined Wolfsburg from Juventus in 2010 for €15.5 million. He spent the 2011-12 campaign on loan at Atlético de Madrid.

The 28 year-old has made eight appearances this season, scoring one goal.
