Barcelona midfielder Xavi has been encouraged by the performance of Neymar during his side’s 1-0 win over Celtic in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Spain star revealed after the game that he believes both Neymar and young Spanish centre-back Marc Bartra will prove to be key figures for Barcelona this season, reports Goal.com.

Neymar was involved in the game’s turning point when Celtic captain Scott Brown was sent off after appearing to kick out at the 21-year-old after bringing him down during a Barcelona counter attack.

Barca went on to win the game through Cesc Faberges’ late header and Xavi feels the performances of the two young stars is something to be encouraged by.

“Neymar and Bartra are showing their quality,” the Spain veteran was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“They will be important throughout the whole season and today they proved it.”
