PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi have confirmed that sporting director Leonardo will leave the club shortly after resigning his post last week.

Speaking at the press conference held to announce the signing of Edinson Cavani from Napoli, the PSG supremo told the congregration that Leonardo left with his well wishes.

“I wish all the best to my friend Leonardo. I’m very sorry he had to leave,” he told reporters at the press conference.

Leonardo resigned from his position after being handed a nine-month ban for assaulting an official, failing on appeal to overturn his ban.

However, reports suggest the Brazilian has remained in his post to oversee the completion of the Cavani transfer.

Leonardo had been the mastermind behind the PSG project, securing the signings of high-profile players such as Thiago Motta, Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well as coach Carlo Ancelotti.
