Coritiba went top of the table after a 1-0 win over Atlético Paranaense thanks to a second half strike from Geraldo.

Former league leaders Botafogo fell to third after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Grêmio courtesy of a Eduardo Vargas brace. 

Vítoria also overtook Botafogo with a thrilling 3-2 win over São Paulo as Dinei and a Maxi Biancucchi double overturned goals from Aloisio and Rogério Ceni.

Fourth-placed Cruzeiro strolled to a simple 3-0 victory over Náutico thanks to Ricardo Goulart and a double strike from Vínicius Araújo.

Rosinei helped Atlético Mineiro to edge a closely contested clash against Corinthians after an assist from Bernard to make it 1-0 to the away side.

Flamengo also took a 1-0 victory over Vasco da Gama thanks to a solitary strike from Paulinho in the first half.

There were goalless draws between Criciúma and Goiás and also between Ponte Preta and Bahia.
