Manchester United boss David Moyes has denied that the club want to sign Thiago Alcântara as the midfielder looks set to join Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old, who is of Brazilian heritage, has continually been linked with an €18 million move to Old Trafford this summer, with some reports suggesting a deal had been completed.
However, former Barca coach Pep Guardiola revealed on Thursday that he wants to bring the Spain Under-21 captain to Germany, promoting Moyes to deny Thiago was ever a target for the Premier League champions.
“I’ve never said he was one of our targets,” he told reporters in Bangkok, where United kick off their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Singha All-Stars on Saturday.
“We are following several players closely at the moment and are happy with the way things are going.”
According to Mundo Deportivo, a deal could be agreed as early as Saturday, although the Blaugrana are understood to want more than €18m in the way of a transfer fee.
Thiago has reportedly now told Barca officials that he wants a move to the Allianz Arena.
