New Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that he wants to sign Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcântara this summer.
The 22-year-old is widely expected to join Premier League champions Manchester United in the near future, after months of speculation regarding his well documented €18 million buy-out clause.
However, Guardiola has now admitted that he also wants to sign the highly-rated midfielder, who is the son of 1994 World Cup Winner Mazinho.
He told a press conference: “I asked [Karl-Heinz] Sammer and [Matthias] Rummenigge for the player. I don’t know what happens in future but I would like to get him.
“Thiago is the only player I want, that’s what I told them. It’ll be him or no one.
“We have many players but we the need the special [quality] that Thiago Alcântara brings.
“The club will decide. I told them my opinion.
“I don’t think [adding another midfielder] will be a problem. I spoke to club about my concept and told them why I want Thiago Alcântara.
“Nobody will leave Barcelona, unless they feel they won’t play much. He wants to play. That’s why I proposed him to the club."
