Hernanes is looking forward to Lazio’s Coppa Italia Final against rivals Roma so that he can put the “anger and frustration” of their previous derby behind him.

The Brazilian midfielder had opened the scoring in the Derby della Capitale last month, but then missed a penalty and gave away a spot-kick in the 1-1 draw.

He told UOL Esporte: “That game left me sad, as we were so close to achieving a great victory, but by the end it was not such a positive day.

“I tried to keep my head on my shoulders so that I wouldn’t suffer too much under the anger and frustration. I didn’t want to let my head drop.”

Hernanes was also full of praise for coach Vladimir Petković, who has guided the Biancocelesti to the Coppa Italia Final and Europa League quarter-finals while challenging for a European place in Serie A.

He added: “When Petković arrived at Lazio we talked and he asked me which position I’d prefer to play in.

“I’d never had a discussion like that with a Coach before, so I was happy. After playing in various different positions, I decided to go back to my roots.”

The Coppa Italia final will take place on May 26, but in the meantime Lazio have their final four league fixtures, starting with the visit of Bologna on Sunday.
