Young Santos forward Neilton hopes to take his opportunity with the first-team squad in the coming weeks, in order to open doors to more of his colleagues from the club’s youth team.

Neilton, recently turned 18, was handed his first start for the club in a derby fixture last weekend and did well on the big occasion.

His rise follows that of fellow youth teamer Giva who scored twice in a 2-1 victory over Mirassol just last week—the game in which Neilton made his debut.

With opportunities being handed to the club’s Copa São Paulo winning youth team at present, Neilton insists that more of his colleagues can come through to achieve success together at senior level.

“The opportunities that Muricy is giving to the kids are important,” he told reporters at his first press conference appearance.

“If we can take our chances, others from the youth team can also come to the senior squad. I think I took mine. I have waited for a long time to get here and, thanks to God, the moment has arrived.

“We have several youth players in the senior squad now and we know each other well. Now we must get to know the rest of the group. When we have blended in more, we can move to the fore and win many things.”
