Botafogo beat Madureira 2-1 to remain in first place in Group A in Taça Rio, which is the second turn fo the Rio de Janeiro State Championship.

The match was played at Bangu’s Moça Bonita stadium, the game was more notable for the poor refereeing than for the football played by the teams.

It was a fairly uneventful game until the 30th minute, when referee Georg Bennett ruled a penalty for Botafogo, only to change his mind and rule that actually it was not a penalty.

The decision annoyed Botafogo players, including Dutch star Seedorf, who would make the assist for Dória’s goal shortly before the first half was over.

Madureira managed to equalize the game in the second half with Jean, but Seedorf placed Botafogo ahead again.

The Dutchman was subbed off near the end of the game, but left the pitch from the side deemed wrong by the referee and was thus carded. He complained about the decision and was given his second yellow card.

Elsewhere, Volta Redonda beat Friburguense 1-0 at the Raulino de Oliveira.
