Maicon will reportedly leave Manchester City at the end of the season as the reigning Premier League champions embark on a clear-out of first-team players.

The Brazilian defender only moved to the Etihad Stadium in August but is now believed to head a group of 11 players whose futures are in doubt, according to the Guardian.

Roberto Mancini is determined not to repeat last summer’s mistakes in the transfer market, after the Italian coach missed out on all of his first-choice targets.

The likes of Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri could also leave the club in the summer, while Kolo Touré, Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge will all be out of contract and are certain to depart.

Maicon has only played 11 times for the Citizens since making the move from Inter in the summer for a fee of £3.5 million to rejoin his old boss.

The 31-year-old was recently ruled out for a month after going under the knife to resolve a persistent knee problem.

The injury has wrecked Maicon’s time at Eastlands, having only played three times since being out for two months earlier this season.
