Anzhi defender Ewerton says he is happy with his side"s goalless draw against Newcastle in the Europa League last night.

The Russian Premier League side claimed a hard-fought draw in the last 16 of the competition and managed to keep a clean sheet to avoid a dangerous away goal disadvantage.

Ewerton was impressed with the Magpies" performance, but believes his side are good enough to progress through to the quarter-finals.

He told UOL: “It was a good result, but we could have won and achieved a good result at home.

“The game in England is going to be harder but we can win. Their team is strong and they showed it on the pitch.

“It"s important to add that we missed some of our experienced players. Willian"s injury harmed our attacking strength.

“But we will work hard in the next days, and use the game in the Russian League on the weekend [as preparation] to try to advance in the Europa League".

The second leg of the tie will take place at St James" Park on Thursday 14 March.
