Lazio star Hernanes is delighted to have been called up by Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for the Seleção’s upcoming friendlies with Italy and Russia.
The 27-year-old has been in fine form for the Biancocelesti, which subsequently earned him a call-up for Brazil’s recent friendly defeat to England at Wembley.
However, Hernanes had to be replaced in the Seleção squad after he clashed heads with Juventus midfielder Luca Marrone during a Coppa Italia semi-final the week before.
He said: “I am very excited about this opportunity. During the last meeting, I was fine with lots of goals, but I was hurt and was unable to present me with my teammates.
“Luckily I managed to recover quickly and return to competition, but this time I hope to be present and play well to meet expectations.”
The former São Paulo player, who has scored eight Serie A goals this season, currently has eight caps to his name but hasn’t represented his country since a friendly win over Bosnia more than a year ago.
