Brazil star Marta has reservations about the women’s game in her homeland and believes there is room for improvement.
Marta, 27, is one of the most well-known footballers on the planet and is considered by many experts to be the finest exponent of the women’s game.
The Brazilian, who has been nominated for the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year award nine times in a row and won it on five occasions, believes more progress needs to be made in her native country.
She told FIFA.com: “It’s a complicated thing to talk about. Brazil focuses on women’s football whenever there’s a big tournament, but as soon as it’s over, it’s forgotten about.
“We’re taking little steps in the right direction and we are making progress, but it’s all happening too slowly.”
Marta currently plays for Tyreso FF in Sweden but also keeps a close eye on other women’s leagues around the world, including the German Bundesliga.
She added: “I had some offers a couple of years ago. It’s definitely a great league and I think it’s among the strongest there are, along with Sweden. Germany’s a country that loves women’s football and it’s certainly a good option.”
