Corinthians striker Paolo Guerrero has revealed that he is realising a childhood dream by playing in the Copa Libertadores.

Guerrero, 29, grew up in Peru dreaming of playing in the competition and got close aged just 18 when he made the bench for his first club, Alianza Lima, but never made it onto the pitch.

“I always watched the Libertadores when I was in Europe. As a boy, I got to go two or three times to the bench with Alianza, but did not get to play. Now I have that opportunity, the “dream” I had, and still more by playing for a Brazilian team. I have arrived at this dream, and for a team that is the favourite.”

Guerrero, who scored the winning goal in the Club World Cup final against Chelsea in December, believes he can score goals for Corinthians in this year’s tournament but believes the most important thing to for the Timão to be successful.

“All centre-forwards think about it (scoring), but these things now stand aside. The most important thing is the team winning the championship. I can make goals … I want to score goals, of course, and if I get a chance I will be ready.”

Corinthians face Peruvian’s San José on Wednesday evening in their first Libertadores tie of this year’s campaign.
