Bayern Munich defender Dante’s impressive start to the season could see him make his international debut against England at Wembley on Wednesday and the centreback is relishing the opportunity.
Dante, 29, moved to Munich from Borussia Moenchengladbach last summer and has been a vital part of the German giants defence which has conceded just seven goals in 20 league games this season, a new Bundesliga record.
“I’ve taken the first step. I want to seize this chance and show my qualities,” he said.
Dante has played in Europe since 2004 when he moved from Juventude to French club Lille and the defender, who also played for Charleroi and Standard Liege before moving to Germany, is looking forward to the prospect of facing one of the best forwards on the continent, Wayne Rooney.
“I’m really pleased to have got the call and I’m looking forward to the prospect (of facing Rooney),” he said.
“He’s a world-class striker – a high quality player. His movement is fantastic. He’s got everything. You have to be right on your game against those sort of players because they can turn a game in a flash.”
And Dante is hopeful he can continue his club form for the Seleção, as he sets his sights on a place in this summer’s Confederations Cup and next year’s World Cup, both set in Brazil.
“I’m aiming high. There’s no way I’ll ease back now, I’ll work even harder and try and make a convincing case for myself,” he added.
