Internacional striker Diego Forlán has revealed his delight at scoring his first goal against city rivals Grémio in Sunday’s GreNal classico.

Forlán, 33, joined Internacional from Italian giants Inter last July, signing a three year deal with the Porto Alegre club, and was delighted to get his first goal against Grémio in Inter’s 2-1 victory.

“The first in a derby against Grêmio is very beautiful,” he told Lancenet!

“When games are important, players have to appear.”

The Uruguayan praised Inter’s start to the season under new coach Dunga and believes they will continue to improve over the coming weeks.

“The longer we stay together, we will be much better. The pre-season was very good, which is very important.

“We worked well. When I arrived Damião and D’Alessandro were hurt often and Dátolo had not been playing well. We can grow even more.”

After the victory the former Manchester United forward jumped in a private plane, funded by the Uruguayan federation, to take him to São Paulo where he will board a plane to Qatar for this weeks friendly against Spain in Doha.

“This is not easy. There are many people who cannot work. So it was very important to make a good preseason.

“I arrive tomorrow (on Monday) in Qatar. I have to catch a flight for 14 hours in Sao Paulo. So this is football, if you have the opportunity to play in the national team you have to make the sacrifice.”
