Flamengo legend Zico has criticised the club for not promoting young forward Rafinha to the first team earlier than this season.

Zico, 59, has recently returned to the club where he played 16 seasons during his career as an advisor to the new board and he bemoaned the lack of chances for Rafinha, who he says has shown his talent since an early age.

“This is nothing new for me. I have seen him since he was 15-years-old,” he told Lancenet!

“I only regret that the opportunity was not given before. Everyone saw what he did in the youth and juniors.

“I do not know if wrong information was passed by the technicians or because of the lack of communication… He was the one who had no chance.”

Rafinha has been in fine form at the start of the Carioca championship and impressed against Vasco da Gama last weekend by scoring one goal and making another in Flamengo’s 4-2 win.
