AC Milan have announced that Robinho will not be leaving the club in January and will stay in Italy until the July.

Robinho, 28, made it clear he wanted to leave Milan and return to his homeland, with his former club Santos, Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro all showing an interest, but it now looks like the former Manchester City star will remain at San Siro until the summer.

“I am happy that Robinho was in Milan. He did not train for three weeks, then needs time to regain shape,” AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri told reporters.

“Robinho will stay in Milan until at least July. He has said he plans to return to Brazil.”

AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has been in Brazil trying to negotiate a return for the striker but the demands of both the club and the player have proven beyond the means of the clubs that had shown interested.

All deals seemed to be off on Friday but a late attempt by Santos to bring back their former hero also proved unsuccessful due to the transfer fee demanded by Milan.

“There’s nothing closed. With Santos I would quietly give up a part of salary but with Milan is difficult,” Robinho confirmed to Globo Esporte.
