Sport Recife have announced Oswaldo Alvarez as their new coach for the new Brasileirão season.

Alvarez, or Vadão as he is also known, will start work at the club immediately with the players due to return to training on January 3.

The 56-year-old has had a long career with many clubs, starting out at Mofi Mirim, before moving onto Atlético Paranaense, Corinthians, São Paulo, Bahia, Goias, Ponte Preta and Guarani.

In an official statement the club revealed that the coach will work alongside the board to recruit players for the new season.

“The coach will participate intensively alongside vice president Milton Bivar and staff in recruiting players for Sport Recife.”

This news comes after Luciano Bivar swept to victory in the club elections against rival Sergio Guedes.
