São Paulo’s Rogério Ceni criticised the team’s performance and says they succumbed to ‘nerves’ after a goalless draw against Tigre in Argentina.

The captain told reporters after the match: “We didn’t really play much, it was an ugly game to watch, a strange game. But it was a reasonable result, because we take it back to the Morumbi and and there’s no away goals.

“The team was nervous and anxious. And we weren’t physically fit and we are tired, as we are coming to the end of the Brazilian season.

The match got off to a ugly start as Luís Fabiano and Alejandro Donatti were sent off for kicking out at each other, reducing both sides to ten men.

Things barely improved as both teams failed to create chances to seize the game and the Brazilians take a draw back to the Morumbi next week.

The second leg takes place at the Morumbi in São Paulo next Wednesday.
